Cory's Shearwater, Salvage Islands, 8th July 2005 (Steve Gantlett). There are no gulls on the Salvage Islands (which lie between Madeira and the Canaries), so the Cory's Shearwaters are diurnal (although the smaller tube-noses breeding there are still strictly nocturnal).

Corncrake, Balranald, North Uist, Outer Hebrides, 15th June 2005 (Steve Gantlett). Right beside the RSPB Information 'Bothy'. This was on a passing visit on the way to a very rainy St Kilda.

Adult summer Mediterranean Gull, Southwold, Suffolk, April 2005 (Richard Millington).

Belted Kingfisher, River Dee, Peterculter, Aberdeenshire, 8th April 2005 (Steve Gantlett). Not a tick, but an irresistable twitch in a superb setting; what a bird!

Norfolk's first Killdeer twich, Breydon Water, Norfolk, 29th March 2005 (Richard Millington)

Aleutian Canada Geese, Eureka, California, USA, 10th March 2005 (Richard Millington)

Nancy's Cafe, Willows, California, USA, 10th March 2004 (Richard Millington). Nancy's
Cafe - USA style, complete with a Californian version of Bryan Bland.

Male Turkestan Shrike, Porlock Marsh, Somerset, 6th June 2003 (Steve Gantlett). No two 'isabelline shrikes' seem to look quite alike.

Juvenile Shag, Wells Harbour, Norfolk, 10th December 2004 (Richard Millington)

Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler, with Nick Riddiford, Fair Isle, Shetland, 26th September 1986 (Steve Gantlett)

Wryneck, with Iain Robertson, Portland Bill, Dorset, 24th April 1976 (Steve Gantlett)
